This was the adidas Runners City Night & Inline Skating 2021

The adidas Runners City Night with its inline skating and running competitions registered almost 5,000 participants (10k running: 3,543; 5k running: 939; 10k inline skating: 331). This means that the event was fully booked, which clearly reflects the endurance sports community's desire for events. The participants, regardless of the times and placings achieved, appeared to be consistently joyful and relaxed at the event, also an indication that they were just happy to be out running with others again. They came to the capital from all parts of Germany, from St. Peter-Ording to Munich, but also from many parts of the world such as South Africa, Iceland, the USA and Mexico. All this was made possible by a detailed hygiene and safety concept. We were positively surprised by the high vaccination rate of 82 percent of all participants. A high number of vaccinated and recovered people helps all participants and us for safe and at the same time process-optimized events.

The men´s race

There was great interest, of course, in the top athletes. In the 10k men's race, Philipp Pflieger dominated from the start. While Aaron Bienenfeld (SCC Hanau-Rodenbach, 29:16 minutes), who finished second, was able to pose a threat to him in the beginning, the top athlete from LT Haspa Marathon Hamburg played out his superiority on the second half of the course and took his fourth victory at the adidas Runners City Night with a time of 28:50 minutes. "It was so much fun to finally, finally run in a big field again. That was just awesome. Then the people along the Ku'damm were even cheering from the balconies, and that pushed me insanely." Rounding out the men's podium was Fabian Clarkson of the SCC EVENTS PRO TEAM in 29:51 minutes. You can find all the results here. Do you want more now? 2.

The women´s race

Rabea Schöneborn was on standby as a substitute runner for the German marathon team at the Olympic Games until shortly before her start at the adidas Runners City Night. She clearly demonstrated on the streets of Berlin that she would have been fit for a start in Japan. At kilometre seven she broke away from the lead group and demonstrated her marathon form. With a time of 33:15 minutes, wearing the jersey of LG Nord Berlin she crossed the finish line as the first female runner and commented happily: "It's so beautiful here with the lights; it's so special to run into the darkness. And then to experience the feeling of winning in front of spectators again after such a long time—that all is really special for me." Christina Gerdes (SCC EVENTS PRO TEAM, 33:55 minutes) sprinted to second place ahead of Jana Soethout of Berlin Track Club in 34:27 minutes. You can also find your result here. By the way, almost 43 percent of all participants were women! Make sure that the proportion of women taking part will be even bigger next year and register here for adidas Runners City Night and take part on Jul 30, 2022.

3.

The inline skater´s race

There was also a successful restart for the inline skaters at the fastest night in Berlin: Alexander Bastidas from Venezuela won the 10k race in 15:37 minutes ahead of the Germans Sebastian Mirsch (15:40 minutes) and Tobias Hecht (15:41 minutes). In the women's race, the fastest skater was Franziska Petry from Dessau, Germany. She reached the finish line in a time of 18:13 minutes, ahead of Claudia-Maria Henneken (18:17 minutes) and Silke Röhr (18:29 minutes). All results can be found here.
