The skaters started the 50th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON a little earlier than in previous years from 12.20pm today. However, there was not only a new start time, but also a new course, which was agreed with the authorities with the aim of relaxing the Berlin streetscape. The new course scored points with its stadium atmosphere, cheering points and live music, which also appealed to spectators. The start took place at the usual location on Straße des 17. Juni, from where the skaters set off on a five-lap circuit that led via Ernst-Reuter-Platz and Otto-Suhr-Allee in the direction of Charlottenburg Palace. After a turn, the field winds its way back to the ‘Goldelse’ - as Berliners call the Victory Column. A total of five laps had to be completed before the grand finale along the familiar section of the course along the Landwehr Canal, Potsdamer Platz, Gendarmenmarkt and Unter den Linden. Bart Swings and Noraly Berber Vonk coped best with the new course in a time of 1:00:02 hours and 1:13:53 hours respectively as winners of the 50th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON Inlineskating. Swings commented: ‘It was a really tough race today, especially because of the strong wind.’ Winner Berber Vonk added: ‘I've always dreamed of winning here, our team tactics worked out perfectly today.’
